The City of Arlington, TX

Arlington is the 7th largest city in the state of Texas, and is home to over 365,000 people. It is within the metropolitan area of Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, and is located in Tarrant County. The city is 20 miles to the west of Dallas and 12 miles to the east of Forth Worth, and is home to a large number of popular tourist attractions.

The battle between Native American Indians from the settlement at Village Creek and General Edward H. Tarrant happened in 1841, and soon after a trading post sprung up at what is modern day Arlington. The trading post was at Marrow Bone Spring, and attracted a number of farmers to the area due in large part to the richness of the soil. Within years a number of agricultural business had been expanded, and the growth of Arlington had begun in earnest.

The city of Arlington was named after the house of General Robert E. Lee in Arlington, Virginia. It was founded along the Texas and Pacific Railway in the year 1876, and was famous in Texas for being a center for farming and the ginning of cotton. By the year 1910, the city of Arlington had public schools, telephone services, natural gas, electricity and running water, and the population of Arlington in 1925 was calculated to be over 3,000.

In 1945, the Arlington Chamber of Commerce was established by civic, business, and community leaders. These people banded together to form the Chamber of Commerce due to their beliefs that one voice should represent the economic community of Arlington.

Many mayors of Arlington have also served on the Board of Directors as the Chairman, including Tom Vandergiff, who served from 1949 to 1951; Harold Patterson, who served between 1967 and 1968, and Richard Greene, who served in 1981 and 1982.

The Arlington Chamber of Commerce is one of the biggest federations of businesses in the region, and it represents not-for-profit organizations, trade association, and businesses in Arlington. Over sixty thousand people are employed by these members of the Chamber of Commerce, which accounts for a third part of the workforce in the local community.

General Motors established an assembly plant in Arlington in 1954, and the industrialization of Arlington began in earnest. From 1950 and 1990 the city experienced a huge boom in population, due in large part to the automotive and aerospace developments that sprang up in the city.

Visitors to modern-day Arlington are sure to stop in at the Cowboys Stadium, University of Texas at Arlington, the Texas Ranger's Ballpark, the International Bowling Campus, Hurricane Harbor, and the first Six Flags over Texas. There is also a huge parade thrown every 4th of July, and many visitors come from around the state to participate in the annual event.
