Boston, MA
Boston is a world-acclaimed city that is located in the eastern coast of
Massachusetts. It is one of the most famous cities in the U.S. and
certainly around the world. Boston can certainly claim its place as one of the
world-class cities of the world. In short, it has enormous historical value to
the United States. Boston was the stage for many of the pre-Revolutionary issues
that led to the American Revolutionary War. It's one of the oldest cities
in the U.S. It is extremely diverse, with regards to its population. It's
both ethic and Anglo-Saxon. It's blue collar on the one hand, and very
aristocratic on the other. It is the home to some of the most renowned
universities in the world. It is also home to some of the most acclaimed medical
centers in the world.
The city was founded in 1630 by early Puritan
settlers who came to America from England. As most people know, the settlers
came to America from England, primarily to escape religious and political
persecution. As more settlers came to American shores, the city of Boston
grew. As time went on, people who lived in Colonial America grew tired of
the very persecution that they were trying to avoid in the first place. The
primary form of persecution that was experienced by the settlers was via
taxation. One of the most popular sayings of the time was "No taxation
without representation." Settlers felt that since they were simply
colonist, and not full citizens of the Monarchy of England, they should not be
taxed. This issue and other tensions led to the American Revolutionary
War, which of course, the Americans won.
As time went on, Boston grew to be the formidable
city that the world knows it to be now. It is a city of many neighborhoods and
ethnicities. For example, there is a huge Irish ethic presence in the city. As a
matter of fact, the NBA team that represents Boston is aptly named the Celtics.
The mascot for the team is a "Fighting Irish" man. However, the city is
also represented by African Americans, Italians, Vietnamese, Asians, Latinos,
and other minority groups. All of these groups have left their imprint on the
city's culture. These can be found in the city's restaurants, festivals, and in
strong ethnic residential neighborhood areas.
Boston, and the surrounding area, is home to some
of the most acclaimed universities in the word. Names such as Harvard, MIT,
Emerson, Tufts, and others need no introduction. In conjunction with the
universities, the hospitals associated with these universities are some of the
best in the world. The schools and the medical centers give this city the
nick-name of the "Athens of America", meaning that the city is a major learning
center that draws some of the best minds and talents in the world.
Boston is a city that is very proud of its rich
and historical significance, but it's also a city that is extremely progressive,
due largely to its well known political figures in the local, state, and federal
levels. It is one of the cities that must be explored and experienced at least
once in life.
