Erie, PA

Located in the northwest corner of Pennsylvania, 90 miles north of Pittsburgh, Erie is the state's 4th largest city following Pittsburgh, Allentown and Philadelphia. For a great day outdoors visit Presque Isle State Park which is a national landmark of nature and is an environmental gem, offering the perfect mix of recreation and nature. It is made of a breathtaking 32,000 acres of pristine, sandy peninsula that sticks into Lake Erie providing over 7 miles of beautiful beaches. The Presque Isle Lighthouse there was built in 1872, and is still in use. This is the perfect park of you love bird watching as it has been rated as one of the best bird spotting parks in the country.

The Port Erie Bay front district is a great area to visit all the greatest tourist like activities with its diverse combination of dining places, shopping, seafaring things to do and open areas for picnicking and more. You'll also find sailboat and riverboat cruises and charter fishing. Transportation is a breeze with the areas water taxi and bus shuttle services. Close by at Discovery Square you'll find more museums including one specifically for the kids, the renovated Perry Memorial House and also Dickson Tavern which was at one time a stop for the Underground Railroad. You'll also want to visit the planetarium and historical museum and General Anthony Wayne Memorial Blockhouse.

The Erie Zoo, located on over a beautiful 15 acres, includes over 300 animals living in areas built to provide them with their natural habitats which focus on the jungles of Africa. They also have an Asian area that highlights Asian deer, orangutans, insects and snakes.

If the weather isn't at its best visit Erie's Splash Lagoon which is an indoor water park featuring warm temperatures annually. It has state of the art water rides wrapped in a South Sea Island ambiance with tropical plants, palm trees and exotic flowers.
