What is deregulated energy?
Deregulation, or energy choice, allows you to shop for the generation, or supply, portion of your energy bill. Why look beyond your utility for this service? Energy supply makes up over half of your bill and alternative suppliers may offer attractive electric prices in New Hampshire not available by your utility company. Plan options, such as those benefiting green energy projects, are another benefit to making the switch.
Consumers don't have to take part in energy choice. If you decide to forgo receiving energy from a supplier, your utility company will remain responsible for all three energy services: generation, transmission and delivery. No matter who you choose to purchase your energy supply from, the electric companies in New Hampshire will remain responsible for restoring power if there is an outage. Ready to dive in? Will I be charged for switching to a supplier?
You will not be charged by your local utility for switching to an energy supplier. However, some energy providers in New Hampshire may require a deposit before you start your supply plan. The amount of this deposit could be dependent on your current standing with the local utility or your credit score. Deposits can change from supplier to supplier – even plan to plan. When signing up, inquire about your chosen supplier’s deposit requirement and any upfront costs for a clearer picture.
If the plan you chose requires a deposit you can't or don't want to pay, you can still get an alternative energy supply plan. Prepaid plans allow you to pay for the energy you need each month in advance, while avoiding a deposit.
If you are currently enrolled with an energy supplier and plan to switch before the end of your agreement, check the terms of your contract to make sure you are not responsible for an early cancellation fee. Most brands give you a grace period – often 30 days – to change your mind without holding you accountable for the charge.

It was so easy to sign up and make the switch. If I had known about this before it would not had taken me so long to make the switch.
