About The United Illuminating Company

Based in Orange, Connecticut, The United Illuminating Company acts as the utility that handles electricity transmission and distribution for the Bridgeport and New Haven areas of the state, along the shoreline of Long Island Sound. UI, a subsidiary of Avangrid (NYSE: AGR), is the smaller of Connecticut’s two electric utilities.

Established in 1899, UI purchases, transmits, distributes and sells electricity and related services to approximately 335,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers in across 335 square miles in the region it serves, which encompasses  17 Connecticut towns and cities.
