Compare electricity rates in Delaware

Delaware residents have the advantage of a deregulated energy marketplace, which means residents can buy their electricity from the utility company or sign up with a different energy supplier for a more competitive rate.

Choose Energy allows Delaware residents to compare available rates and plans in their area and make the switch to a different provider. Enter your ZIP code above to get started.

What is energy deregulation?

Another name for energy deregulation is energy choice. Put simply, Delaware residents aren’t required to buy electricity from the default utility company. Instead, they can shop other providers offering plans more suited to them and their home’s needs.

Residents can find the lowest rates, lock in fixed prices for longer, and even find a green energy supplier so they can get energy from renewable sources.

Energy deregulation in Delaware

Energy has been deregulated in Delaware since 1999 and is open to Delaware Electric Cooperative and Delmarva Power customers. Residents can choose to stay with their utility company if they wish, of they can switch.

The 24/7 Choose Energy marketplace can show you what suppliers and which plans are available in your area. Just enter your ZIP code above.

Is it hard to switch?

No! All you have to do is:

  1. Enter your ZIP code above.
  2. Compare energy supply plans available and make a selection.
  3. Fill in the application form with your contact info, address, and utility account number.

Submit the form, and your new supplier will take care of the rest. They’ll contact the utility and arrange for the switch to happen. You’ll see the change reflected on your bill.

What does the utility do if I switch?

When you switch, your new supplier will start providing the electricity for your home. The utility company is still in charge of its delivery to your home and the infrastructure used to supply it. If you have any problems, emergencies, or an outage, be sure to contact the utility company instead of your energy supplier.

What about green energy?

Some Delaware suppliers may offer green plans that allow residents to take advantage of the state’s renewable energy options, such as wind and solar power. Enter your ZIP code above to see whether there are green energy options in your area.
