Augusta energy rates

Positioned near the Georgia-South Carolina border, Augusta is the second-biggest city in the Peach State with about 200,000 residents. The city’s largest claim to fame is Augusta National Golf Course, which hosts the prestigious Masters tournament each year. Augusta lies within the Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) service area, which is deregulated and offers residents the ability to select their own natural gas supplier.

If you live in the region, you can use an online energy marketplace such as Choose Energy to find the best Augusta natural gas rates and lock in a cheap plan.

Natural gas rates in Georgia vary seasonally. Typically, rates are lowest in the fall and winter and highest during the summer. To see what rates are available from Choose Energy’s suppliers, enter your ZIP code above.

Augusta energy deregulation

Before Georgia introduced deregulation in 1997, energy customers were required to purchase their natural gas from a designated provider. But since the passing of Senate Bill 215, which deregulated the market, Augusta residents have been able to choose their preferred natural gas provider (also called a gas marketer).

After deregulation took effect, Augusta natural gas providers began to compete for customers’ business. As a result, residents could shop around and take advantage of lower Augusta natural gas rates. These days, Augusta natural gas consumers hold the power to choose a plan that works for their household energy needs — rather than having one chosen on their behalf.

With Choose Energy, you can browse and compare energy plans and prices in a few simple steps. We also provide online articles and resources to help you navigate the deregulated energy market. Here are a couple of examples:

Augusta utility companies & energy providers

In Augusta, the utility company is Atlanta Gas Light (AGL). With around 1.6 million customers across Georgia, AGL is the largest natural gas distributor in the state and is responsible for delivering natural gas to your home. Your utility is determined based on where you live, so you can’t choose yours.

However, you can select your natural gas supplier if you live in Augusta. These are the companies that are in charge of selling plans to energy customers. There are a number of Augusta natural gas providers to choose from, including Constellation Energy.

It’s important to recognize the differences between utilities and gas marketers because they serve unique purposes. Whichever provider you choose, your natural gas will still be delivered by AGL. You should contact AGL if you think you might have a leak or if you smell gas. But if you have questions about your account, you should reach out to your supplier.

Augusta renewable energy

As a state, Georgia is still growing its renewable energy efforts. Solar energy contributed just 2% of the Peach State’s annual electricity generation in 2019. There are currently no large-scale wind generation operations or renewable energy targets in place in Georgia.

It’s also worth mentioning that electricity is not deregulated in Georgia (unlike natural gas). In other states, electricity customers can select their own provider, and many suppliers offer green energy plans to help customers reduce their carbon footprint. Currently, electricity customers in Georgia cannot choose their supplier.

Augusta electric rates in my area

If you live in Augusta, you might be wondering: “what’s the best natural gas company near me, or which company has cheap natural gas near me?” But instead of researching individual gas marketers on your own, you can use an online marketplace like Choose Energy to simplify the process. Here’s how it works.

First, submit your ZIP code to see the best natural gas rates Augusta. From there, you can review the available plans in your area and choose the one that’s right for your needs. Then, when you’re ready, you can sign up with your new supplier.

As you search for natural gas plans, it’s important to customize the search to your local area. That’s because gas marketers charge different rates depending on where you’re located due to varying utility transmission charges.
