About Amigo Energy

Founded in 2003, Amigo Energy is a full-service retail electricity provider for residential and commercial customers in Texas. As one of Texas’ oldest electric retailers, Amigo Energy has provided hundreds of thousands of Texans with affordable electricity rates.

Along with Tara Energy, Amigo is a subsidiary of Just Energy, which operates in 20 markets across the United States. At Amigo Energy, you can lock in a low rate by purchasing a short- or long-term fixed-rate plan.

Amigo Energy plan offerings

Amigo Energy provides consumers with short- or long-term fixed-rate plans. With the Truly Fixed plan, energy customers enjoy a single, simple rate for a 24- or 36-month contract.

Amigo Energy also offers green energy plans that can benefit the environment – and your fixed monthly energy rate! Through the green energy plan, consumers can enjoy 100 percent renewable energy in their homes. Amigo Energy also provides a nights-free plan, with no charges from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Difference between supplier and utility

In many states, the utility company bills customers for two main energy services: supply and delivery. The supply portion of the bill accounts for generation of energy from the source, while the delivery service transmits energy from the source to the home through utility-owned infrastructure.

If you live in a state with a deregulated energy market, you can shop for an energy supply plan from companies that may offer lower rates than your utility. But rest assured, switching to a new energy supplier will not compromise the delivery service you currently receive from your utility. The local energy company will continue to deliver your energy, read your meter, send your bill and restore power in the event of an emergency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How soon can I set up service?A: Once your order has been confirmed through the Choose Energy marketplace, Amigo Energy will work with your local utility, or TDSP, to set up service. If a hold has been placed on your enrollment, Amigo Energy may require more information from you.
Q: Will I have to pay a deposit or pass a credit check? A: Many retail energy providers require credit checks or deposits for their electricity service. When you select a plan, we’ll let you know if you’ll be required to pay a deposit. To learn more about credit checks or no deposit options, please click here.
Q: My power went out – what do I do? A: If your power goes out or you are experiencing any problems with your electrical equipment (i.e. power lines, meter, etc.), contact your local utility directly. Find your utility’s contact information here.
