Silver Spring energy deregulation

Energy deregulation in Silver Spring began in 1999 with passage the Electric Customer Choice and Competition Act of 1999. This law allowed customers to choose from different energy suppliers.  Customers are also able to select from variable- and fixed-rate contracts, with multiple options available to suit individual needs. Competition between energy companies was a great boon for Silver Spring customers, driving down prices as companies sought to gain new customers. While some might choose to remain with the primary service provider for the area, you can save significant money by comparing the available energy plans.

Silver Spring utility companies & energy providers

After deregulation, a split occurred in the way energy is managed for consumers. Before 1999, energy was managed and sold to customers by the same organization. Now, all energy delivery is managed by your local utility, while multiple companies sell and bill for energy consumption. Silver Spring’s local energy utility is PEPCO. Thanks to deregulation, however, many other organizations can be compared and chosen between by local residents. Choose Energy has identified the best energy providers in the area, including ConstellationXOOM Energy and ConEdison Solutions. Comparing rates between each of these providers will enable residents to find the most affordable contracts for homes and businesses.

Silver Spring renewable energy

Many Marylanders are quite environmentally conscious and strive to incorporate that into their energy choices. Renewable energy in Silver Spring can be obtained through Oasis Energy, a leading supplier of green electric services. Although costs per kilowatt hour can be higher with a green energy provider, the environmental impact of energy usage is minimized compared to traditional providers. Many green energy providers depend on wind energy to generate electricity.
