Frisco energy rates

Frisco is a Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area city with a population of about 180,000. Home to a historic downtown and the National Videogame Museum, it was named the number one best place to live by Money Magazine in 2018.

Split between Collin and Denton counties, it is also part of Texas’s deregulated energy market, meaning customers get to choose which company supplies their energy. Prices fluctuate over the course of the year, but Frisco residents can use Choose Energy’s 24/7 marketplace to stay on top of the best rates and decide when to buy. Frisco energy deregulation

How has deregulation affected Frisco?

Here’s what the latest statistics from the U.S. Energy Information Administration show:

  • Texas residential electricity rates are nearly 9.5 percent lower than the national average.
  • Texas commercial electricity rates are nearly 26 percent lower than the national average.
  • Texas industrial electricity rates are nearly 23 percent lower than the national average.
  • Texas generates the most electricity of any state from wind.
  • Texas generates the fifth-highest amount of electricity from solar energy.

Deregulated energy has been a part of the Lone Star State landscape since 2002, when the state legislature passed a bill to de-monopolize a majority of the energy industry. Where previously one utility company had total control over their part of the state, since 2002 a variety of different energy providers have competed to offer customers the lowest rates and best plans.

Choose Energy’s online marketplace shows current rates from Frisco’s top providers, with a few different types of plans to meet customers’ needs. From green energy to free weekend plans, energy choice has vastly expanded the options Frisco residents have when choosing an electricity plan and provider.

Frisco utility companies & energy providers

Frisco falls into the Oncor Electric Delivery service area. This means that Oncor is the city’s utility company and is responsible for transmitting electricity to residents’ homes and maintaining the power lines. This is who you call if your area experiences a power outage.

However, since the market was deregulated, Oncor is no longer the company Frisco residents must buy their energy from. Instead, they have a choice of different providers who will coordinate with Oncor to power the home. Choose Energy has cooperative agreements with some of the most trustworthy suppliers, including 4Change Energy, Reliant Energy, and TXU Energy. When shopping with Choose Energy, consumers can be sure the companies they’re considering have been thoroughly vetted.

Frisco renewable energy

Named a “Tree City USA Community” by the Arbor Day Foundation for 15 years, Frisco is no stranger to supporting the environment. The deregulated energy market allows Frisco residents to carry their commitment into their electricity supply, with green energy options in our marketplace from our partners Amigo Energy and Green Mountain Energy. Texas is number one in the nation for wind power and number five for solar power, with more opportunities for renewable energy growth popping up every day.
